Educators ‘central' to COVID-19 transmission in one Georgia school district

Educators were “central” to in-school transmission of SARS-CoV-2 in one Georgia school district during a recent 7-week period, investigators reported in MMWR.
The incidence of COVID-19 increased by nearly 300% - from 152 to 577 cases - in a school district in Cobb County, Georgia, from Dec. 1 through Jan. 22, when 2,600 students and 700 staff members participated in 24 in-person school days at eight elementary schools, according to CDC Epidemic Intelligence Service Jeremy A.W. Gold, MD, and colleagues from the Georgia K-12 School COVID-19 Investigation Team.
