With great interest, we read the recent meta-analysis conducted by Gao et al. who summarized the global prevalence of sarcopenic obesity with the pooled prevalence of SO being 11%. The authors found that the prevalence of SO was higher when using muscle mass alone to define sarcopenia than that using muscle mass plus handgrip strength and/or functional ability. This study had multiple implications for the first study to comprehensively summarize the prevalence of SO global, which can give evidence for government and clinicians around the world to early implement preventive strategies.
