DARE-19: No significant decrease in major events; dapagliflozin well tolerated in COVID-19

The SGLT2 inhibitor dapagliflozin did not significantly reduce risk for organ failure or death or improve recovery among adults hospitalized with COVID-19 vs. placebo, though data showed lower event numbers among treated patients.
Main results from the DARE-19 trial were presented at the American College of Cardiology Scientific Session, on the heels of topline data announced in April.

Prediabetes confers elevated risk for major adverse CV events

Adults with prediabetes were more likely to have an MI and other CV events compared with those who had normal blood glucose levels, according to a presentation at the American College of Cardiology Scientific Session.
“In general, we tend to treat prediabetes as no big deal. But we found that prediabetes itself can significantly boost someone's chance of having a major cardiovascular event, even if they never progress to having diabetes.
