A 3-year-old boy presented to the emergency department with a 5-day history of a progressive painful swelling to his scalp. He had recently returned to Australia following a 3-month vacation in East Africa. He was systemically well, with no previous medical history of note. Just before presentation, apparent movement had been noted at the punctum of the lesion, and a single larva had been expressed and removed by the patient's mother.

11-year-old female presents with worsening facial rash

An 11-year-old healthy female presented to the dermatology clinic for evaluation of a facial rash that had lasted for 3 weeks. Initially, it was a round, scaling papule treated by another provider with combination betamethasone dipropionate 0.05%/clotrimazole 1% cream, but the rash worsened. This was followed by mupirocin ointment, without improvement. She has since been using triamcinolone 0.025% ointment for the last 4 days and feels it is enlarging. It is not painful but is mildly itchy.

A 12-year-old female presented to a local ER with a 5-day history of progressively worsening fever, cough, nasal congestion and conjunctivitis, and a 1-day history of a rash, mostly on her face and head. She denied nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, joint pain, sore throat or any other complaints. There had been no known sick contacts at home, school or anywhere else.
